On 5 December the world celebrated the tenth annual International Volunteer Day which was first announced by the UN in 2001. On this day the first report on the development of volunteerism across the world was read in hundreds of countries across four continents.
One such UN presentation was held in Kyiv at the Shevchenko Kyiv National University. UN representatives and volunteers organized the event; the list of invited guests included officials from the State Committee of Youth and Sports, and employees from NGOs including Caritas.
A phrase from the Report can serve as the slogan: Volunteers are the Wealth of a Nation. However, the report did not simply praise the volunteer movement; it harshly criticized the Ukrainian Law On volunteerism, and its abilities to encourage the further development of volunteerism.
