As part of Caritas Kyiv’s attempt to constantly care for the disadvantaged members of society, they conducted another event to benefit these individuals—they distributed sweets to children and other disadvantaged individuals.
“Sweet rolls, chocolate candies, and yogurt were given to street children, child invalids, children who come from one parent families, orphans, institutionalized children, veterans, elderly individuals, children from poor or multi-child families, special needs individuals, and those in prison,” stated Fr. Roman Syrotych, Director of Caritas Kyiv.
This event was held across a fairly large geographic area. From June through August the sweets were given out in the following regions: Vinnytsya, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv and in the city of Kyiv.
Specifically, thanks to Caritas Kyiv’s partners sweets were given out to: poor families in the Vinnytsya, Zhytomyr (children’s buildings in the villages of Korostyshiv, and Hryshkivtsi and in the city of Brusliv), and Kyiv (Irpin, Vyshhorod, Fastiv, Bila Tserkva, and the village of Verbivka) regions, Caritas Donetsk, Caritas Khmelnytskyy, the Mercy as Intellect, LLC., children at the children’s room at the Chernihiv Women’s Colony, the imprisoned in Prylutsk and other penal colonies in the Kyiv region, the Unions of Multi-child capitals, 12th Children’s Institution in Kyiv and others.
The St. Nicholas in Summer event was made possible thanks to donations made by the Food Bank Foundation, Friends of Children, Kraft Foods, and Dannon. These companies productively worked with charitable organizations and relief services, while being mindful of the needy people.
“On behalf of all the people who received sweets, and from me personally, I would like to sincerely thank our partners, because they made children smile, and the elderly shed tears of happiness,” states the Director of Caritas Kyiv.
