A small group of Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko’s fans and enthusiasts gathered at the Caritas L’viv Social Centre. Shevchenko is a renowned Ukrainian genius. “At the gathering they sang songs written to Shevchenko’s words and poems being recited in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Clients of the Geriatric Centre and members of the regional Prosvita organization wanted to show the younger Caritas clients how many works by Shevchenko they know. They put their heart and soul into each performance,” explains Stepan Vovk, Associate Director of Caritas L’viv UGCC.
Over 150 years have passed since Shevchenko put his thoughts on paper, yet they are still relevant. They could’ve been written yesterday; they touch on our current problems and attitudes about statehood.
