12,832 UAH of online donations have been collected through the first of its kind in Ukraine independent nationwide philanthropic website. The donations are being collected to fund an educational project called Our Future is in Our Hands! The project is designed to help young people with mental disabilities. Fundraising started on 23 January of this year. The money will be used to equip the Gardener’s Group workshop in Ivano-Frankivs’k for young people with disabilities.

“It is nearly impossible for the disabled to find decent work in Ukraine. It is also impossible for a young person with disabilities to get an education so that they could qualify for jobs. Gardening is a job that a mentally disabled person could do well. This has been proved by research conducted by Caritas Germany where hundreds of thousands of disabled individuals obtain basic education, vocational training and employment.

90% of disabled young people in Germany work. They work like others, interact with their colleagues and are secure in their future. Here, only a select few are so lucky,” says the Executive Director of the local Caritas.

Funds are being raised for an educational project the Ivano-Frankivs’k Caritas has adapted for the disabled; it guarantees that students will learn the skills necessary to work on par with non-disabled gardeners!

Additionally, the Caritas Rehabilitation Centre in Ivano-Frankivs’k will help graduates with job placement. This really sets the program apart as it is the program which offers job placement assistance for the disabled in Ukraine.

Staff members of the Centre for Social Adaptation for the Disabled in Ivano-Frankivs’k dream of making many jobs accessible for their clients. For several years workshops on cutting and sewing, woodworking, yarn, paper and bead workshops have been held for the disabled.

Many disabled individuals dream of working as gardeners. In order to make the world of flowers accessible to them we simply need to find the money to cover the costs of instruments and seeds. Staff members of the Centre are asking for your help. Make an online donation to fund this project at: https://ubb.org.ua/ru/project/45/.

Maybe it will be your donation which will become the ticket to somebody’s happy interesting and confident life!
