Caritas Ukarine is again among the best

This year, Caritas Ukraine was announced a winner in the nomination “Social services expenditures” by the National ranking of benefactors with a budget of more than 10 million.

On Friday, September 29, 2017, the festive celebration to mark leaders and participants of the annual National ranking of benefactors took place in Kyiv. The ceremony gathered representatives of funds and organizations from all regions of Ukraine.

The National ranking of benefactors is an independent professional assessment of charity funds and organizations which are ready to make public their tax returns. Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum together with reputed partners has been holding the Ranking since 2013. Its purpose is to facilitate accountable charity in Ukraine and honour those charity organizations which run their activities under high standards and are ready to publish their financial reports, as accountability is a decisive factor for the trust in charity.

Director of Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum, Polina Niukhina, says that the ranking gives the possibility for big and small funds to make a statement about themselves. The ranking is held according to three different categories per volumes of the provided assistance. Each category marks funds and organization per lines of their activities.

‘89 funds participated in the National ranking of benefactors this year, six of them are new. Officially, every forth charity organization reported on its activities. Transparency, publishing of tax and narrative reports is a trend of charity sector, a key to public trust and efficient work. Let’s continue nourishing charity and stay open to one other’,  Polina Niukhina adds.

According to, Andriy Vaskovych, the President of Caritas Ukraine, the Ranking of Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum is a perfect mechanism for assessment of charity development in Ukraine. ‘The ranking is based upon the monetization of charity, which is rather important but still is not the most important one. Funds spent on charity represent only one of aspect of charity. However, particularly a financial aspect makes our activities possible – makes the aid to those who need it possible. We should remember that provision of funds is not charity, but funds provide people in need with the possibility to develop and satisfy their needs for more productive and high-quality life. Moreover, charity is not solely financial support, it also includes social services provided among the rest by Caritas Ukraine under its activities’, Andriy Vaskovych added.

We are also very proud that not only activities of Caritas Ukraine are transparent and accountable. Caritas local centers from Lviv to Kharkiv, from Odesa to Kyiv actively take part in the ranking and received relevant certificates during the ceremony.
