Home Care staff in Ternopil observed the International Day of Older Persons in a unique way on 26 September.
“Together with those who receive our help we designated 26 September as Home Care Day. We invited our clients to the Caritas facilities where they were welcomed by Fr. Andriy Marchuk. We held a joint prayer and then had a festive lunch. Our clients received gifts that included food baskets. Getting together and receiving gifts, is very important for them!
The attention they were given, the preparation, the efforts invested, and the actual help,” explained Sister Olya, who works with isolated elderly individuals.
Caritas Ukraine has been running the Home Care program for 10 years. It is designed to improve the quality of life for isolated elderly individuals, the debilitated, terminally ill, and those who have suffered an accident need constant or temporary outside assistance.
“During the festivities, we had a chance to socialize, receive nice gifts, and the priest’s blessings, and feel the benefits of a family atmosphere. Two of our young clients with cerebral palsy exhibited their bead work for the first time. The atmosphere was very festive.
Another important aspect was that those clients, who were unable to attend the festivities due to their health, were visited at home. Thank you Caritas!” states Yuliya, one of the clients that was able to attend the celebration.
