On 9 May, a delegation from Caritas Aachen (Germany) came to visit Caritas Ivano-Frankivs’k UGCC. Eight young people with developmental disabilities led by social pedagogue Carlhaynts Schmitt and Yurgen Holfeld, Manager of the football club made their first visit to Ukraine. Their main goal was international exchange to improve the social adaptation and integration of young people with special needs.
The visit started with the Germans meeting with staff and clients of the Centre for Recreation and Social Adaptation. Lyudmyla Maksym’yuk, Coordinator of the Centre explained Caritas’ workshops and about events which are aimed at socially integrating the clients. Mr. Schmitt explained the work Caritas Aachen does with the disabled. In addition to finding their clients employment and ensuring that they receive their social benefits, Caritas Aachen focuses on helping their clients acquire independent living skills.
