Nearly 40 young people with disabilities and volunteers (friends and social workers from the Caritas Ivano-Frankivs’k UGCC) relaxed in the Carpathian Mountains. This year 10 Caritas clients, including some who live at the local geriatric home, took part in the summer camp and sang songs near a camp bonfire.
They didn’t only rest in camp. Counsellors, together with volunteers, organized a program they titled Kaleidoscope of Health. This activity packed program required that the campers take on an active role in a variety of events: hikes in the mountains, trips to forest streams, sporting events, competitions, art contests, evening programs, a disco and much more. Group events help the disabled to adapt and integrate into mainstream society.
During the 7 day camp, the disabled campers had the opportunity to demonstrate and perfect the social adaptation skills that they learned earlier.
