Voluntary organizations, volunteering and voluntary movement are notions to describe the importance of social and political life of the society. They are getting widely spread in Ukraine. Though volunteering at national level has even deeper history than philanthropy.
There is quite a great number of youth that are ready to dedicate their time to assist other people. They are involved in social projects, civic and charity organizations, initiatives to render help, volunteers exchange programs, youth parties etc. However, there is a long way to go to reach the level of development of volunteering or quality of civic organizations work in Western European countries, Australia, Canada, and the USA.
It is connected with political and economic conditions in Ukraine. This problem is also related to mental and historical circumstances of the country. The Soviet authorities deformed more than one generation of Ukrainians and their civil society culture.
