More than 23.000 victims of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine will receive help

Caritas Ukraine launches new assistance program which is intended to take care of the basic needs of victims of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. These activities will focus on internally displaced persons (IDPs), including those who have not received IDP status yet and host families living in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya, Kramatorsk, Kyiv and Odesa.



The mobile emergency group is created which will provide people most in need living in the zone of military operations (controlled by Ukrainian authorities as well as so called Donetsk and Luhansk People Republics) with food and basic stuff.

It is expected to provide assistance to more than 23.000 victims of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. The project “Protection of basic needs and stabilization of financial situation of those affected by the conflict in Ukraine” will last until the end of 2015.

The total budget of the project is 2 million Euros and it is funded by German Federal Office through Caritas Germany. The main objectives of the project are:

•    one-time payments for handling of basic needs;
•    distribution of kits with food and hygiene accommodations;
•    winterization financial assistance;
•    payment for the purchase of food, hygiene products, medications and coverage of treatment expenses;
•    provision of individual and group psychological assistance.

Caritas Ukraine started to work with IDPs in May 2014 and currently this work is provided in 12 regions. In general more than 50.000 victims of the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine are covered by our work. Caritas Ukraine provides such services for IDPs and other people affected by the conflict in Eastern Ukraine:
•    food and housing allowance: Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Odesa, Kolomyia, Novovolynsk, Sokal, Drohobych – over 4.100 people covered;
•    non-food assistance (clothing, shoes, toiletries, etc.): Kyiv, Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Odessa, Svyatohirsk, Slovyansk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kolomyia, Novovolynsk, Sokal, Drohobych –  over 13.450 people received assistance;
•    food assistance: Kharkiv, Novovolynsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kolomyia, Sokal, Drohobych, Lviv – more than 8.900 people covered;
•    allowance for accommodation, winterization of houses and purchase of winter stuffs: Kharkiv, Svyatohirsk, Slovyansk Kramatorsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sinelnykovo, Dnipropetrovsk, Krivyy Rih, Nikopol, Pavlograd, Zaporizhzhya, Berdyansk, Chernihivka, Tokmak, Izum, Zmijiv, Bogodukhiv Lozova, Mykolaivka, Chervony Lyman, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka – more than 9.600 people covered;
•    psychological, legal and informational support: Kyiv, Odessa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kolomyia, Novovolynsk, Sokal, Drohobych – more than 5.000 people covered;
•    drinking water: Slovyansk, Svyatohirsk, Kramatorsk, Popasna, Vuhledar – more than 16.800 people covered;
•    installation of windows in Slovyansk – more than 840 people, 240 households covered;
•    humanitarian convoy from Poland (Kharkiv and region) – more than 8.000 people covered.
