Kyiv Caritas, thanks to their continued cooperation with prisons, distributed sweets and Bibles to minors and women who are being detained in the Kyiv Investigative Detention Centre and to those serving out their sentences in the Inter-regional hospital in the Buchans’kiy Penal Colony.

“We gave out 960 Barni treats, 510 boxes of Milka, and 80 boxes of Caramels. Another shipment of sweets was given to the Chernihiv Women’s Rehabilitation Colony #44,” said Fr. Roman Syrotych, Director of Caritas Kyiv.

The local Caritas has been providing assistance to imprisoned women and their children for 15 years. Their efforts are aimed at giving prisoners and their children hope in tomorrow, helping them to understand that the world has not abandoned them, and that they really do have a future.

They also work with the Zbaraz’ky Colony in the Ternopil region, the Chernihiv Women’s Colony and the children’s building attached to it, the Poltava Women’s Colony, the Odesa Women’s Colony, Dniprodzerzhyns’k, the Kharkiv Colony and the Uman Colony.

Caritas depends on constant written communications in order to serve inmates. Communications provide psychological and spiritual support; packages contain material assistance—groceries, personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, clothing, footwear, and spiritual literature.

They assist the children’s building at the Chernihiv Women’s Colony by supplying diapers, stuffed animals, pastries, and other items.
