In Ukraine St. Nicholas’ Day has always been an important and happy holiday of good will. In modern times a nice tradition has taken hold—to reach out to the less fortunate to make sure they have gifts.
On 19 December, Caritas Ivano-Frankivs’k UGCC hosted an unforgettable winter treat for their clients at the ice rink. St. Nicholas’ Day at the skating rink drew 70 children and youngsters including those who have special needs, who have one parent working abroad or are wards of the state.
For more than 10 years Caritas Ukraine has been assisting less fortunate families, homeless, and orphaned children. The project Mobile work with Children and Young People from Crisis Families operates in 5 social centres and serves nearly 600 children. The Holy Family orphanage near Ternopil houses another 30 children.
